April Wildflowers

I forgot I was trying to keep a monthly tab on what wildflowers were coming up around here. Looks like I missed March, but there are only a few bloomers during that month.

Wild Azaleas. Three colors here and there; white, orange, and a mild pink.

Trillium. They're only about 18 inches in height but this became an interesting shot.

Some type of small spring growing Aster. They stand about 12-18 inches high. Flowers are the size of quarters. There are also some faint purplish ones.

Wild Iris? Or is that a trillium too? I dunno. If I spent some more time at Missouri plants I'd probably be able to name most of them. Best source of wildflowers I've seen so far.

Thousands of these very low growing buggers near the bog...other spring on the west side.

A few months ago I bought (8) 2 gram packets of these. Offered by Ferry-Morse called Natures Rainbow Mixture and American Native Mixture, or enough to cover about 200 square feet. The area is now running at about 300 so I needed more. Now Lowes has easy shaker wildflower seed and more selections are added to what's above. And much lower in cost.

Wildflower Gardens

Or at least that's what this area will be eventually. Wildflower area is planned to run around the corner, or about the fifth fence post. After starting yesterday, I thought the area in front of the fence would be an ideal place for the rest of the flower bulbs. Finally! I actually got tired of looking at them. Lost count of how many. Count 'em for yourself. The final tally below doesn't include the ones near the pressure treated wall.

And I said I got bored with the west side of the house, but dangit those bulbs laying around were annoying me. So there's something like 100 in that area. More crocus had to be planted as well, along the fence by the lawn. Should be an interesting spring...wondering how many will come up. Oh, the paperwaites are beginning to sprout (warm weather)

And the Dianthus is dropping seeds.

August Wildflower Report

Nothing especially exciting, except the bluish one below. I suppose wildflowers can be weeds and vice versa. Most of what is growing would be on the weed side in my opinion. Several are growing tall or on the order of four feet and higher. Here's one the butterflies love.

There must have been seven or eight fluttering on these things today.

Here's a nice one. Several here and there. One was growing in one of the rock gardens and the expert didn't realize it. About three foot.

In amongst some other types...

Coneflowers with another orangery thing that grows all over the place. So many that a month ago I had to hack a bunch of them down because they blocked the creek view.

Wildflowers Again

I'm trying to document these as they pop up from the ground. This wee little red one started about one week ago and it's all alone. The only one in the forest. Size of the flower is like that of a quarter, maybe smaller.

Here's one up the driveway that started about the same time or a week ago with two flowers. Seven days later it's grown to many. Grows on a vine. Once again all by it's lonesome...not a relative to be seen anywhere.

And this one showed today or yesterday, or at least I didn't notice it. I'll try and find some names later. The one below was growing near the above.
